Fouta Trekking Aventure, Guinea-Conakry
Fouta Trekking Aventure (FTA) has been founded in 1995 by a group of young locals interested in developing tourism in Guinea-Conakry. It is mainly managed by tour guides from Niokolo Badiar National Park and by host families from the communities.
FTA is Guinea's leader in trekking holidays that have a strong focus on sustainable development. The type of tourism offered by FTA focuses entirely on cultural exchanges between the people of the North and the South, and provides access to the unique authentic Guinean culture. Through its involvement, the association stimulates job creation in rural areas that otherwise provide only limited opportunities especially for the younger generation.
The objectives of FTA:
- To develop a socio-ecological tourism with a sustainable development perspective
- To show and explain the Guinean realities to foreign tourists
- To permit cultural exchange between the people of the North and the South
- To encourage job creation in rural areas - particularly for youths and women
- To limit the migration away from the rural areas
SDT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FTA in 2005. We currently support TESFA's activities through our marketing efforts in Europe and through representation at leading international tourism fairs. Potentially, there are possibilities to also get involved on the ground with the provision of technical support. FTA explicitly welcomes volunteers and interns.
