Working Paper Series

We desire to make SDT a 'factory' for innovative concepts and ideas. We therefore welcome scientific contributions in all areas related to tourism and sustainable development. These can be in the form of short essays or research papers, as well as longer project descriptions, dissertations and theses. The Editorial Board consists of Michael Grosspietsch, Susy Karammel and Daniela Niehues. All accepted contributions will be published on the SDT website.

We desire to link our research activities to various institutions. For example, we offer our technical support to students who wish to write a term paper or their final dissertation or thesis on a subject related to our work. By doing so, we also wish to encourage future research to contribute to the body of knowledge in a more coherent and progressive way.

While any subject dealing with tourism and sustainable development is of interest to us in general, our personal work and research are mainly dedicated to four major areas:

  • Community-based tourism (CBT) initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa and beyond
  • Increased benefits for local people from tourism development ranging from mass-tourism (e.g. all-inclusive resorts etc) to small scale tourism (e.g. community-based tourism)
  • National policy strategies to maximize the poverty-alleviating potential of tourism
  • Technical and personal support for marketing activities of small incoming operators in new and emerging destination countries (e.g. Rwanda, Ghana)

We highly welcome any contribution. Please contact us at info@sd-tourism.org.
